This retreat is open to health care professionals: doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists/counsellors, yoga/mindfulness teachers, nurses and recovery coaches. The goal is to give you the knowledge, tools and practice to deeply impact your life strategies, in a fun, action-based week. Focusing on self-care, burnout and vicarious trauma, this week will provide you with the tools to manage and let go of those aspects of work that might be damaging to you and share and absorb experiences amongst a peer group who will understand your unique work-life circumstances. To be able to engage in an empathic and understanding manner with deeply depressed or traumatised clients/patients requires a level of resilience, self-awareness and self-care that is often out of reach. It is essential for both our own self-care and our clients that we learn to not only recognise any counter-transferential traumatisation and also prevent its destructive influence responsibly, ethically and proactively. Among the tools include: a look at building resilience, letting go of therapeutic or relational blocks, preventing dissociation in the face of trauma narrative, and confronting trauma contagion. Resurface will create a safe space to focus attention on our own history of trauma and care-taking, our need to be 'wounded healers', to build our own somatic awareness, and revel in the experience of like minded peers and their hard worn experiences in the helping professions.
It is the truly unique fusion of the power of surfing, creativity workshops and bonding in an intimate group of only 6 people, along with the founder of Resurface UK himself, that translate our aim into reality. This exclusive program is dedicated to understanding and learning the science of human creativity. It has been carefully structured by Josh Dickson, a therapist who has gained his practical experience and insights, in the field of drug addiction treatment and private practice.
The goal of our programme is to give you the knowledge, tools and practice to deeply – significantly - impact your life strategies, in a fun, action-based week. It is the truly unique fusion of the power of surfing, positive psychology workshops and bonding in an intimate group of only 10 people, along with the founder of Resurface UK himself, that translate our aim into reality. This exclusive program is dedicated to understanding and learning the science of human flourishing. It has been carefully structured by Josh Dickson, a therapist who has gained his practical experience and insights, in the field of drug addiction treatment and private practice. A detailed assessment and follow-up after-care suggestions are made before and after attending a retreat. At Resurface we believe that treating trauma requires a holistic approach due to the complex nature of the traumatic condition. Trauma impacts a client’s cognitive skills, emotional regulation and somatic responses. As a result of this we need a variety of interventions and approaches to successfully deal with all of these problems. The Resurface programme is primarily based on three evidence based modalities recommended by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) as safe and effective trauma treatment: EMDR, CBT and Mindfulness.
It is the truly unique fusion of the power of surfing, experiential group therapy, psycho-education, mindfulness and bonding in an intimate group of 10 people that translate our healing goal into reality. We combine flow activities and group work in a progressive and efficacious way. We have clearly seen through our previous retreats that our clients often experience a deep therapeutic boost along with the acceleration of both understanding and recovery from some of their past traumas. At Resurface we believe that it is the holistic approach of mind, body, science and fun, set in the confines of a small group in a safe environment that underline our success so far. Our aim is to facilitate turning traumas that unconsciously and negatively affect your behaviour and outlook on life today, into awareness supported by a portfolio of practical positive tactics, and a community of like minded ‘fellows’, to positively affect your life strategies and behaviours. While we welcome everyone and have experience in treating a range of trauma related conditions, this program is particularly suitable to recovering addicts, PTSD sufferers, people with childhood issues and those frightened of life.
